“TO KNOW CHRIST AND TO SERVE HIM”

As a mission statement, this may appear quite simple and at the same time very difficult. How can one begin to “know” Christ? Here at St Mary’s, we are aware that this is an ongoing process which, in essence, will take a lifetime. We learn of Christ through the Holy Scriptures, the teachings of the church, during corporate worship, as we pray, and through participation in the Sacraments. 

The hard part comes into play with the phase, “…and to serve Him.” To truly serve Christ requires that we continually surrender our lives over to Him through service to His kingdom as we undertake the Great Commission.  That means being a light unto the world, seeking God and serving Him through loving others and spreading the good news of Jesus Christ to the world.  It requires sacrifice and a steadfast devotion to the truth of the gospel.  That is what St Mary’s seeks to do.  We, as Daytona Beach’s oldest church, were called into existence by our Lord to spread the love of Christ to our town. We believe that once you come to know Him, you are compelled to serve him.
