The beautiful Mather Memorial Garden, established in 1987, graces the north side of St Mary’s Church. A 40-foot long crescent shaped wall, with name plaques commemorating the deceased, is graced with a five foot statue of St. Mary in the classic “Our Lady of Grace” pose overlooking the garden and the cinerarium (a depository of ashes).
With a bequest from Eliza Thompson Mather, a lifelong parishoner of St Mary’s, the Garden was renovated in 1998 with new plantings, trees and a fountain and a fund for future maintenance was established. In 2021 the Coquina Wall was doubled in size to add space for plaques for many years to come.
This garden, enriched with the fountain and meditation areas, is a place for contemplation, remembrance, prayer, and inspiration.
